Colors in the Sky
Hello Beautiful People,
After seeing friends share their pictures of Thursday night’s sighting of greens, purples, and pinks — I was among the handful of “hopefuls” scanning the sky at Atwater Beach two Fridays ago trying to see the Northern Lights. Did you see them? I stuck around until almost midnight with a thermos of tea, a very thin sweater (not prepared for the wind off the lake), one earbud in my ear listening to this song on repeat (because it mentions the Northern Lights briefly, haha), and making friendly chit-chat with other star gazers.
Spotlighted Lyrics:
Northern lights in our skies
Plants that grow and open your mind
Things that swim with a neon glow
How we all got here, nobody knows
I learned when you stare at the horizon long enough, you do trick yourself into “seeing colors.” But, alas — no Northern Lights. But, we did see a shooting star! It was kind of fun huddling with strangers looking up at the night sky, witnessing the waves of different people just coming over to scan the skies. I had that feeling I get before the lights turn down low at a movie theatre. How strange that all of our paths lead us to sharing this quick, quiet moment together!
The very first person I chatted with was a yoga teacher from Indianapolis visiting her brother for the weekend. Somehow we got on the the topic of Astrology (as we were trying to figure out if the bright light in front of us was a star or Jupiter — it was Jupiter). And, wouldn’t you know it — she practices Kundalini Yoga in Indianapolis. I’m always surprised when I run into another kundalini yoga practitioner.
Later on, I met someone who drove straight from Target. Wrapped in a newly bought blanket, he learned about a possible Northern Lights sighting and just popped over. Originally from New Delhi, he recently moved to Wauwatosa via Madison. Another strangely specific connection! I chatted with folks who were lucky to see the lights before and were back again in case they could catch a second glimpse, a photography enthusiast who shared his eclipse photos from the summer, and I ended the night driving a college kid home because she felt a little uneasy walking home alone at midnight. She popped out the car and shouted back, “Thanks! I hope you see the Northern Lights one day!” “You too,” I chimed back.
Strangers are just strangers until you talk to them. It’s really marvelous to discover commonalities we have with the people we stand next to at the bus stop or grocery store. It’s such a warm fuzzy feeling to uncover and declare — oh, me too! I have loved that thing, or have lived in that place, or have had that experience too! It gives me that feeling I get when traveling that the world is actually very small (in a good way).
So, I didn’t catch any of the celestial events this month — no Northern Lights or Green Comet sighting, but the Fall colors continue to take my breath away. Hope you get a chance to pop outside and notice the colors changing. The vibrant oranges are already shifting to deep reds where I live. Happy, happy Fall to you all!
This week is jam-packed with Halloween activities. It’s going to be so fun and festive! If you’re coming to Joy Ice Cream’s Halloween Bash, look out for the purple butterfly (me) reading tarot/oracle cards and eating Flour Girl & Flame pizza. It’s going to be a delight! Sign up for a spot here, or just show up same-day. More events coming in November …

REIKI LEVEL ONE CERTIFICATION - Sunday, November 17th 10-6pm
Reiki Level 2 is really my favorite level! It gives you access to the reiki symbols, techniques to give distance reiki, send reiki to groups of people, infuse your food or objects with reiki, send a little reiki zap along with your emails or letters, etc. I’ll be offering a Reiki Level 2 certification in February 2025. Reiki Level 1 is, of course, a pre-requisite — so if you’re interested in learning to infuse food, send reiki to loved ones or clients, access reiki symbols, etc. definitely make time to join in November’s training. There are 6 spots available as of now.
As always, reach out with any questions — especially if you’re still not sure what reiki is. If you’ve never experienced the modality, I’m happy to give you a complimentary 10-min distance reiki zap. Reach out and we can coordinate a time.

SPOTLIGHT: HEARTBEAT PODCAST - new episodes every Wednesday
Jenifer Patrick Silverman is the woman behind LOAM (love of a mother), an organic cotton loungewear line designed to nourish the mothers wearing them. We start our conversation by talking about the potential & importance of the frequency of the fabric we wear. Jen shares the meaning behind her company's name and her greater vision, the serendipitous ways her business began, and the intention behind each piece in the collection. Jen values a slower pace and has intentionally designed her pieces to be seasonless and timeless. Each piece is functional for breastfeeding, durable, washable, and made from the highest quality organic raw materials with the highest standards of ethics. Check out her collection at @theloam.co and listen in to her episode: “The Frequency of Fabric” here.
I’ll be opening my books up soon for 1:1 distance reiki sessions via zoom. Until then, I shifted the focus of many of my offerings to help folks settle into the “receive mode.” It’s quite a jolt to the system to go from unstructured summer to the momentum of the beginning of the school year (whether or not you are around folks attending school). The transitions between seasons always feels like jolt — reiki is one modality I especially crave giving and receiving this time of year to just drop into balance. Reach out if you want more information about mini-sessions.
Sending you heaps of love,
EB
